The Sustainability Laboratory is pleased to share that after a long period of preparation, a Lab team completed a reconnaissance trip to Kenya, laying the foundation for Project Olgulului, a new development initiative with a Maasai community in Southern Kenya.
During the visit, the team spent time with key stakeholders, leaders and community members, government officials, individuals from academia, the private sector, and others, weaving the network of personal relationships that is critical to achieving the aims of the intended project.
The underlying concept calls for an ambitious undertaking that combines several interdependent moving parts, including ecosystem restoration and the recovery of degraded land, community participation and capacity building, food security, effective grazing, water stewardship and management, diversification of the traditional pastoral economy, human-wildlife interface, and more.
The Lab looks forward to collaborating with the Amboseli Ecosystem Trust leadership, members of the community, and other Kenyan leaders in jointly designing and delivering a showcase project that will secure the well-being and long-term flourishing of the Maasai community and its remarkable ecosystem.
